Though several years have passed, the memory of a certain newspaper article remains with me until this day. The article attempted to explain why wine consumption in Germany had been falling steadily. As the pace of daily life became increasingly frantic, the article explained, people had gradually lost the custom of gathering round the table in the evening to enjoy a good bottle of wine with family and friends. The sociologist quoted in the article worried that the loss of customs like these would ultimately lead to the disintegration of the family and an increase in serious crime.
Considering the rash of tragic events occurring recently our own country, I am sure I am not alone in thinking that what this sociologist had feared was indeed happening.
I believe that creating a sense of warmth and harmony around the family table on a daily basis is an essential part of your own and your family's happiness. Creating that harmony requires only a few simple ingredients.
